Compatibility and requirements.

Reference checked: 28 October 2026 · Installed GES Core and Pro 4.1.2. Requirements and adapter details below describe this build; check your installed release before starting work.

Check what your WordPress setup supports before connecting an assistant or preparing changes.

WordPress requirements

RequirementWhat you need
WordPress6.9 or later, as declared by the inspected Core and Pro packages.
PHP7.4 or later, as declared by those packages. This is a compatibility minimum, not a recommendation to run an unsupported PHP release.
GES Free / CoreInstall and activate the Free plugin. Free local features do not require a GES account.
MCP connectionFor assistant access, use a reachable HTTPS website, the WordPress Abilities API and an active MCP Adapter. Copy the endpoint from your own GES → MCP & OAuth screen.
Paid featuresKeep Core active and install a compatible GES Pro add-on. The operation must be covered by an active verified paid plan.
Background JobsGES’s queue tables, signed background worker route and queue watchdog must be available. Use GES diagnostics to check your installation.

An administrator should install and configure GES. Each later action also requires the signed-in WordPress user’s native capabilities, the connection’s GES permissions and any required OAuth scope. A connection or paid plan does not grant unrestricted access.

AI assistants

ClientConnection and requirements
ChatGPTUse the website’s remote MCP endpoint and GES authentication settings. Custom connection and write-tool availability depend on your ChatGPT account and workspace controls. See the ChatGPT setup guide.
ClaudeFor the hosted connector covered by this build, enable Allow Claude OAuth connections in GES and use automatic OAuth registration. Published identity/CIMD and Claude Code loopback callbacks are not supported by this build. See the Claude setup guide.
Other MCP clientsNot yet tested here. Check the client’s remote transport, authentication and write-tool support against your GES installation before relying on it.

An AI assistant is not included with GES. Assistant eligibility, account requirements, workspace approval and charges are separate. Follow the linked guides for setup rather than assuming every MCP client behaves identically.

Editors and builders

Supported means a bounded adapter exists for the described operation. Limited support means only particular fields or structures are covered. Not yet tested is not a compatibility guarantee.

Editor or contentStatus and boundaries
Native Gutenberg contentSupported for bounded operations. Free exact plain-text edits target supported static text regions. Pro adds supported formatting, block settings and structural operations. Unknown blocks and unsupported cross-markup replacements stop for inspection.
Gutenberg layouts and mediaSupported through dedicated adapters. Native Groups, Columns, Buttons and supported lists, tables, galleries, covers, queries, synced-pattern references, video and embed operations depend on the installed schema and serializer. This does not cover every editor control.
Elementor and Beaver BuilderLimited support. Native text adapters are available for supported targets with Pro. Inspect the actual page and field first. Full structural editing and all-version compatibility are not claimed; vendor integration has not been tested on this staging site.
Divi and BricksNot yet vendor-certified for this build. Bounded adapter paths require matching native formats or abilities and real vendor-runtime checks. Do not assume general text or layout support.
Custom blocks and other buildersNot yet tested unless explicitly supported. GES needs an appropriate adapter for the stored content. It does not fall back to unrestricted serialized-data editing.

Start with one small update on a test page. A successful saved-state check confirms the stored change; inspect the rendered page separately for appearance, responsive layout and builder behaviour.

SEO integrations

GES includes post-level adapters for Rank Math and Yoast SEO. A supported plugin must be active, and supported SEO writes require Pro plus the relevant permissions.

Fields or featureScope
SEO title and meta descriptionSupported post-level proposal fields; the active adapter validates which fields can be changed.
Canonical and robots directivesSupported proposal fields, subject to the active SEO adapter and exact review.
Social metadata and other fieldsAvailable fields vary by adapter and active modules. Ask GES to report the live schema before preparing an update.
Other SEO pluginsNot covered by the Rank Math/Yoast adapters. Do not assume compatibility without a dedicated integration.

Neither SEO plugin is active on this staging site at the time of this check. The adapter catalog confirms available integration code; this page does not claim a fresh end-to-end test of those plugins or every plugin version.

Plans and imports

Plan or workflowAvailability
FreeSupported reads and audits; exact plain-text edits in supported existing static Gutenberg regions; supported title/excerpt edits; and image title, alt text, caption and description edits. No GES signup is required for these local features.
ProSupported content creation and publication, richer editing, image imports and placement, SEO writes and other Pro adapters. Requires compatible active Pro code and verified plan access.
Business and aboveAdds supported administrative operations according to the live capability registry. WordPress authority and connection permissions still apply.
Multi-page JobsCompatible operations can share a Job. Every operation is classified separately; batching does not unlock paid operations.
JSON/CSV in FreeThe bundled importer and multi-resource batching are available when every requested operation is Free. Paid operations still require their own plan and adapter.

JSON and CSV formats

  • Paste: structured JSON recommendations.
  • Upload: JSON or documented CSV recommendation formats: URL | JSON, flat 8-column placements and legacy wide placements.
  • Rewrites: use JSON or the URL | JSON CSV format for the rewrite operations described by the importer. Other CSV layouts are not interchangeable.
  • Declared importer limits: 20 MiB pasted JSON, 25 MiB uploads and up to 10,000 recommendation rows per Job. Hosting and upload settings may impose lower limits.
  • Samples: use the JSON, Rewrite JSON, New Article JSON, CSV (2 columns) and CSV (8 columns) downloads in GES → New Job.

JSON/CSV recommendation imports create background Jobs for analysis, review and explicit Apply, followed by verification and audit. Article creation samples create blog Posts; Page creation uses the native Page workflow. Recommendation CSV is not a whole-site migration format or a universal input format for every GES operation.

Native content-transfer workflows use their own JSON/WXR manifests. They are separate from recommendation imports and do not provide a whole-site database or file migration.

Check your setup

In WordPress, check GES diagnostics and copy the AI setup prompt from your installed version. Once connected, ask:

“Read the GES operating guides, current plan, permissions and capability registry. Check this website’s editor and active SEO adapter. Tell me whether my intended operation is supported and what is missing. Make no changes.”

If something is unavailable, distinguish an unsupported operation from a missing dependency, insufficient plan, disabled connection permission, WordPress capability restriction or changed page state. Do not retry an uncertain write until the saved state has been inspected.
