Connect Claude to GES.

Connect Claude to your WordPress website through GES’s remote MCP endpoint. This guide covers hosted Claude connectors, rather than local Claude Desktop server configuration or Claude Code.

Before you begin

Activate GES Free. Open GES → MCP & OAuth in WordPress, enable Allow Claude OAuth connections, and copy the MCP endpoint shown there. Use the endpoint from the website you intend to connect. GES’s packaged setup guidance for this build requires automatic OAuth registration.

1. Add a custom connector

In Claude, open Customize → Connectors and add a custom connector. Depending on your interface, use Add → Custom → Web or Add custom connector. Give it a recognisable name, paste your remote MCP URL and continue.

For a managed workspace, an owner or authorised administrator may need to add the connector first. Members then connect to it individually. Remote connections originate from Anthropic’s infrastructure, so your MCP endpoint must be reachable from that service.

2. Choose the GES-compatible OAuth settings

Choose Sign in now for authentication and Register automatically for the OAuth client. Although Claude may recommend its published identity option, the GES build documented here does not support that method. Finish adding the connector.

3. Authorize and enable

Complete the WordPress sign-in and authorization screen for the intended website. Review the requested permissions. Return to Claude and enable the connector for your conversation through its connector controls.

Check the connection

In WordPress, open GES → MCP & OAuth, Prompts or How to Use. Find the Connect your AI to GES card and select Copy AI Setup Prompt. Paste it into your connected conversation. This asks the assistant to read the GES guides and discover the current account, permissions and available operations before making changes.

Confirm that it reports the correct website. A successful connection does not grant unrestricted access: WordPress capabilities, connection permissions, supported adapters and your GES plan still apply.

If setup fails

Check that GES is active and copy the current MCP endpoint from your own installation. The remote assistant must be able to reach it. If authentication or discovery fails, capture the error message and check the GES connection configuration before retrying. Never paste passwords, client secrets or access tokens into chat.

Claude-specific troubleshooting

If OAuth registration fails, confirm Allow Claude OAuth connections is enabled in GES and Register automatically is selected in Claude. Published identity/CIMD and Claude Code loopback callbacks are not supported by the GES build documented here. Check your installed version’s instructions before choosing another authentication method.
